Working Hard or Hardly Working?

Author: Jacqueline~ | Filed under: School

Once upon a time in a very small dense boreal forest a beautiful chestnut brown bear was lying in a large pile of brown leaves worrying about winter hibernation. It was late fall and almost all the leaves had changed colour; the air was also chilled as winter approached. The bear hadn’t even started to collect food for the frosty winter, not to mention organizing his cave for the big sleep. The only solution he could think of was hiring someone else to do so for him, while he prepared this fur for the harsh wither weather.  The lazy yet beautiful bear decided upon hiring to gray jay birds by the names of Bruno and Petra.  Bruno’s job was to collect food and Petra’s was to prepare the brown bear’s cave. The bear felt lucky to find birds so late in the season!

The next day the two birds started their new job. Petra started right away, gathering soft leaves for the bear to sleep on. Mean while Bruno was on top of his favourite tree with his bird friends instead of gathering berries like he was supposed to. This went on for several days until the bear realised that the gray jay hadn’t collected any food. Now because of Bruno the beautiful bear would starve over the winter!  The bear was now officially stressed out because he would have to go into hibernation in just one day without any food! Worst of all, the job is too big for one bear and one day.

“Maybe if I help we can collect enough food for the winter,” Petra offered, “I’m all ready done my work, but I have to fly south soon.”

“Maybe if we work all day,” the bear suggested, “Would you be willing?”

“Let’s do it!” they yelled in unison.

Together they gathered enough berries among other food for the winter. The chestnut bear hibernated all winter without starving. The two gray jays flew south safely. Though, Bruno never will be hired again. The bear and the two birds learned an important lesson that autumn, what you do affects everyone around you.
